The drive from DC
Roughly four hours door to door outside of Saturday turnover traffic. The full route and where it backs up is covered in the blog.
The Wright Memorial Bridge
The single biggest bottleneck on the route, worst on summer Saturdays between 10am and 2pm. Off-season and midweek Flex Stay arrivals skip it entirely.
Groceries
A full-size Food Lion sits a few minutes from the house in Corolla, open year-round, plus a handful of local markets.
Dog rules
Leashed dogs are welcome on Corolla beaches year-round. The house itself welcomes dogs for a fee — see the house page for details.
Saturday turnover
Standard check-in is Saturday. Flex Stay dates (October 1 – May 1, excluding Thanksgiving and Christmas weeks) allow other arrival days.
